Bertha-Klinik

A Two-day workshop cooperating with the patients of the Bertha psychiatric hospital in Duisburg, Germany.

duisburg2.jpgWe started by doing quick sketches in ink of each other. Later on everyone had to write characteristics and qualities of the portrayed person onto each drawing.
We then watched a slide show about masks from different cultures.
In the following conversation we talked about what masks can stand for; about their qualities, functions and so on.
The second day everyone selected one drawing, which would form the basis for his or her proper mask. The qualities written onto the drawing, were supposed to be emphasized and enlarged in the mask itself.

duisburg3.jpgAt the end of the second day drawings and masks were exhibited in the canteen and common space of the hospital.
